LAD #17: Andrew Carnegie's Gospel of Wealth

Carnegie's essay describes the danger of allowing money to be passed into the hands of organizations not able to mentally or possibly emotionally to deal with the lot of money. He states that the wealthy entrepreneur must slowly make sure that his fortune will be put to good use. Poverty exists in a society in order to be negated by the wealthy. He wanted to eliminate the possibility the country ending back where it started, This would destroy our civilization. Carnegie said there are three places the money that someone earned during his life could go: to his family, to the public, or spent throughout his life. He had a plan that dealt with management of poverty and how to stop people unfit for having to much money from getting it. The duty of the wealthy to set a good example for the lower classes in the country. He said that “This is not wealth, but only competence, which it should be the aim of all to acquire.”
