Political Cartoon #2-- The Rise It Will
1. Interpret the cartoon. What historical event/issue is being represented?
The cartoon represents the new colonies turning into states. The pillars are representation of the foundations onto which the United States was built upon.
2. What is the message that the cartoonist is trying to convey? Which side of the issue does he support?
The message that the cartoonist is trying to convey is that North Carolina and Rhode Island is slow in completely "standing up" and ratifying the new Constitution. They are slow to do this because it would mean giving up powers as a state to support a strong central government.
3. What effect(s) did this cartoon have on American History? What were the results of this issue being addressed?
The American Constitution is the basis that made the United States so succesful. This cartoon represents the ratifying of the constitution which is a major stepping stone for the United States into being a world power. The issue being adressed is the fact that without the other two pillars completely standing under the constitution the foundation would crumble.
